Thanks to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission for supporting WALK’s Peer Rep Training Project - Our Rights, Our Lives through their 2020 Human Rights and Equality Grants Scheme.
The project involved the delivery of a series of participatory education and activities to build the capacity and expertise of Peer Reps to claim their rights and to support and further the rights of their Peers - both in WALK, and outside of WALK.
The project culminated in an event bringing together Peer Reps, family members, community members and representatives from other disability organisations, to celebrate the project and explore the changes they would like to see happen in Ireland for persons with a disability.
Special thanks to the representatives who attended from KARE, Cheeverstown and Gheel; and a huge thanks to Senator Mary Seery Kearney for presenting about ways that persons with a disability in Ireland can influence change.
As part of the project some of the Peer Reps were involved in the development of a documentary video giving a voice to Peer Reps experiences, highlighting some of the rights challenges to people with a disability in Ireland and promoting human rights and equality for persons with a disability.
