Where We Live
UNCRPD, Article 19
Living independently and being included in the community. States Parties to this Convention recognize the equal right of all persons with disabilities to live in the community, with choices equal to others, and shall take effective and appropriate measures to facilitate full enjoyment by persons with disabilities of this right and their full inclusion and participation in the community
Introduction
WALK believe that Persons with disabilities should have the opportunity to choose their place of residence and where and with whom they live on an equal basis with others and are not obliged to live in a particular living arrangement. Article 19 of the CRPD identifies this as a right for everyone. As a result, we provide a range of supported living options for people across 17 different locations in Leinster. Some people choose to live alone, some people choose to live with others, some people choose to be supported throughout the night, while some have supports at specific times. People may own their own home, rent from a private landlord, be a tenant of a local authority or approved housing body or live in accommodation owned by WALK.
No matter what type of house people live in, WALK understands that it is important for people to have a good life including having valued roles, strong networks and relationships with others, finding pathways to work and education and having a sense of security and belonging. We work closely with people and help them achieve this good life. Here are some of our stories…
