Walkinstown Green Social Enterprise Ltd - A History

This project is supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development and Pobal through the Community Services Programme.
Walkinstown Green Social Enterprise Ltd (WGSEL) is a ‘Work Inclusion Social Enterprise (WISE)’ supporting people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism on their journey to work and develop a meaningful career. WGSEL (Green Kitchen & Garden Shop) is a subsidiary of WALK and was developed with support from Dublin City Council.
At The Green Kitchen & Garden Shop in Walkinstown, we’re more than just your local café and garden shop — we’re a vibrant social enterprise that puts people and community at the heart of everything we do.
Open 7 days a week, our café serves fresh, locally sourced meals, homemade treats, and great coffee in a welcoming, inclusive setting. In our Garden & Gift Shop, you’ll find seasonal plants, unique gifts, and sustainable products that support both local makers and our wider mission.
But what truly makes us different is how we do business.
We are a Work Inclusion Social Enterprise (WISE), proudly supporting people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism to gain meaningful work experience, build confidence, and develop long-term careers. Through our partnership with WALK, we use the Supported Employment model to ensure that everyone on our team have the opportunity to thrive.
Today, 18 of our 28 staff are individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and/or Autism, and we host 12 additional work experience placements. In 2024 alone, we helped 7 of our supported team members move into their first paid jobs in the open labour market — a milestone we’re incredibly proud of.
We also provide valuable services for the wider community, including room hire for meetings and events, we can even cater for external events, a local Men’s Shed, and support for the D12 Foodbank.
Whether you’re stopping in for lunch, picking up a plant, or booking a room — thank you. Every visit helps us create opportunities, foster inclusion, and build a stronger, more compassionate community.
