How We Are Run
Introduction
WALK is governed by a Board of Directors who serve in a voluntary capacity. They oversee the strategic direction of WALK and provide vision, leadership and guidance for the organisation. The Board is committed to maintaining the highest standard of governance whilst ensuring that the mission and values of WALK are upheld.
The Board of Directors retain overall responsibility for the management of WALK with the day to day operations delegated to our Chief Executive Officer.
Walk Directors
Board Subcommittees
The Board is comprised of not less than six and no more than 15 Directors and has three subcommittees. Each have individual terms of reference and report on their work directly to the Board.
Finance Audit Subcommittee
Ensures robust internal controls and financial management systems are in place to meet the charity’s obligations, make the best use of its resources and ensure the long term viability of the organisation.
Remuneration Subcommittee
Recommends and monitors the level and structure of remuneration within the organisation, to ensure alignment with other similar organisations and HSE salary scales.
Risk Quality & Governance Subcommittee
Supports the Board in its work and responsibilities in the areas of Risk, Governance and Compliance to ensure the organisation meets its obligations and is in line with legislative and best practice requirements.
Standards
WALK are committed to high standards of governance, transparency and accountability. We work to adopt policies, procedures and working practices that are in line with best practice, national guidelines and legislation.
WALK s Compliance with the Charities Governance Code and implementation of its six principles ensure effective management and control of the organisation.
We seek to adhere to the Statement of Guiding Principles for Fundraising. WALKs financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) which ensures the organisation complies with Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
