A fulfilling and meaningful life
At WALK, we believe that everyone has the right to live a fulfilling and meaningful life, in line with the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
We provide Day Services to over 280 adults across North and South Dublin, supporting individuals with disabilities to live self-determined lives as active, valued members of their communities. Our work is underpinned by the HSE’s New Directions policy and WALK frameworks, which promote person-centred, community-based support.
Our ethos is rooted in inclusion within each individual’s chosen, local community. We believe that real belonging happens when people are supported to engage with existing networks, develop friendships, participate in everyday life, and build sustainable connections.
At WALK, we support people to explore their options and develop goals that are aligned with their personal vision.
Whether someone wants to:
- attend college or a training course,
- find meaningful employment,
- make new friends and socialise,
- explore new experiences,
- volunteer in their community,
- build practical life skills, or
- become an active, contributing citizen
WALK work alongside each individual to turn those goals into reality & to provide support through a flexible, rights-based, and individualised approach.
We work side by side with each person to design supports that reflect their interests, strengths, and ambitions—always putting the person at the centre of their own journey.
"WALK has helped me over the years to achieve a lot of things such as getting employment for the Job that I love... which is being a chef, they’ve helped me become more sociable and go out with mates when I can, they have helped me with public speaking and how to overcome my fear of that when giving presentations. They’ve helped me with culinary school classes and went to a few of them with me which was much appreciated. Just to name a few things."- Grace Gallagher
As part of our person-centred approach, WALK actively supports individuals and families by signposting them to appropriate services within community healthcare, ensuring they can access the full range of supports they may need. We work in partnership with local services, professionals, and networks to make these connections as smooth and effective as possible.
In addition to direct supports, WALK advocates for systemic change. We work alongside individuals, families, and community groups to influence policy, challenge barriers, and lobby for a more inclusive society—where everyone has equal access to opportunities and a valued role in their community.
