Emma's Story
My Journey with WALK
In 2014, I joined WALK as a second-year Social Care placement student and immediately knew that WALK was different—in the best possible way. From the outset, the culture of learning, support, and genuine care for all resonated deeply with me.
After completing my placement, I was delighted to be successful in my application for a Relief Staff position. I continued to work shifts throughout the remainder of my college years, gaining valuable experience and building meaningful connections.
In 2016, I was fortunate to be appointed as a Community Connector, becoming a full-time member of staff. As I learned the ropes and grew more confident in my role, I naturally stepped into leadership within my team. This led to my successful application for the Team Leader role in 2019.
A year later, in 2020, I took on the role of Programme Co-ordinator, where I remained for two and a half years before stepping into my current position as one of the Deputy Directors for Day Supports.
Throughout my time with WALK, I’ve built countless fond memories and have worked with incredible teams. I’ve always known that WALK—and its culture of growth, collaboration, and person-centred support—was the right fit for me. In my current role, I do my best to support my teams by drawing on the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained over the years.
I am truly passionate about helping people create and live great lives of their own choosing—and that’s exactly what WALK does, every single day, across the organisation.
