Fionn Jordan’s journey to work

Fionn Jordon

Fionn’s Dream Job is to be a Chef, with a keen interest in baking.

After leaving St. Augustine’s Special School in Blackrock, Dublin, Fionn joined WALK’s Real-Life Training (RLT) Programme with the ambition to one day become a Chef/Baker. While at school Fionn worked in Jordan’s Pharmacy doing general duties in stocking shelves, tidying the store, and doing cash float counts. So, the experience of working was already in place.

But to start his journey to his Dream Job, he took on a work experience and training placement in the Green Kitchen Café in Walkinstown, to learn some of the skills needed in food preparation. This progressed into paid part-time work and as confidence grew Fionn took on an additional part-time paid role in Rae’s Bistro engaged in typical kitchen porter and food prep tasks.

To widen his experience and work in different food preparation environments Fionn took on a work experience in Nandos cooking chicken every weekend over the summer of 2022.

With some momentum and a keen sense of direction Fionn accepted a place on a QQI level 5 course in Culinary Arts in Colaiste Ide finishing in 2023 with progression into paid work in the Yum Restaurant with Compass at Google. In 2024 he also joined the team at the Westbury Hotel where he is now on baking duties and hugely enjoys both his workplaces.

While the journey to work is now six years on, Fionn is well on his way to realising his employment ambition in life while keeping his interests in drama, film, and musicals.
