Gig Buddies

Article 30

Participation in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport

Working through a UNCRPD (United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) lens is essential for promoting equality, inclusion, and empowerment for people with disabilities. It ensures their rights are upheld in all areas of life, from education to employment, political participation and social life. This approach fosters accessibility, challenges discrimination, and aligns policies with international human rights standards, creating a more inclusive society for everyone.

Gig Buddies Ireland is excited to launch its first pilot project in Ireland in partnership with the WALK Self-Advocacy Group. This initiative, starting in Dublin, connects adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, and those with support needs to volunteers who share their interests and provide support in attending events and social activities. Gig Buddies is a voluntary befriending service that helps people enjoy mutual interests, have fun, and make meaningful connections.
