Second Chance Dance
Fiadhnait Canning came up with the idea of promoting social inclusion for everyone through her self-advocacy project, Second Chance Dance. Several years ago, Fiadhnait had purchased a ticket for her Debs, only to receive a phone call the night before from the student committee, informing her that there was no space for her to attend. Reflecting on this, she said,
“Some people have been excluded from social events in the past. This project will give others that moment when they were wronged and not given a chance to have that experience.”
On Saturday, September 14th, 2024, Second Chance Dance hosted a night of fun and music at The Odeon, including a performance by Sing Along Social. Guests enjoyed great company, a BBQ dinner, and two drink tickets (beer, wine, or soft drinks) while dancing the night away. The event gave everyone a second chance to create unforgettable memories.
The event was sponsored by WALK, Irish Council of Civil Liberties, EY, A + L Goodbody, and Sing Along Social.
Tickets were priced to ensure that anyone who was not currently working could still afford to attend:
- Full Price Tickets - €45 each
- Unwaged/Unemployed Tickets - €15 each.
Fiadhnait promoted the event through several media outlets, including an interview on Sunday with Miriam on RTÉ Radio 1, a conversation with Alison Spittle on BBC Radio 4 – Alison Spittle: Petty Please, Series 1, The Debs Disaster, and an interview with the Irish Independent, where she spoke about Second Chance Dance.
